    SUSTAINABILITY GUIDE

At RenewableUK we understand that our events can have an important environmental, social and economic impact. That's why we work to integrate sustainability into our events and aim to get the balance right for social inclusion, environmental protection, and economic growth. We're committed to working closely with our exhibitors and sponsors to ensure the exhibition and associated build are as environmentally friendly as possible.

We ask all our exhibitors and stand contractors to submit a sustainability plan indicating your efforts to minimise the environmental impact surrounding your exhibition stand. In addition, we require all exhibitors and stand contractors to adhere to the following rules and guidance.

Please make sure you read this section carefully and make special note of the banned materials at Floating Offshore Wind 2024.

    GUIDE FOR EXHIBITORS

    General Considerations

    • When preparing printed promotional materials for your stand, consider using digital brochures that can be displayed on screens or portable digital devices at the venue.
    • When choosing merchandise for your stand, consider the materials used and the transportation distance to the venue.
    • The use of plastic is strictly prohibited at the event. This may include for example packaging for any merchandise, cups, or soft drink plastic bottles. The event organisers, RenewableUK, have the right to ask you to remove and cease using any plastic-based merchandise or promotional material at your stand at any point.

    Space Only Stands Considerations

    • If you are building your own stand, talk to your contractor about the carbon footprint of the build and what they can do to reduce the waste they create.
    • Do they have a sustainability policy/plan they can share, stating their plans to reduce waste, recycle, reduce carbon footprint etc?
    • Does the company have any environmental, labour practices or other related sustainability accreditation or certification?
    • What management systems do they have in place to ensure they comply with any national or international sustainability-related standards?
    • Ensure any materials used within the stand build are not hazardous single-use materials, or decor using products containing VOCs or non-recyclable materials.
    • If using timber, ensure sourcing from sustainably managed forests and hiring materials locally instead of buying single use items.
    • Do they have any energy reduction practices in place in the manufacture of products/materials, delivery of services or operation of products (ie using energy efficient AV materials, energy efficient lighting etc).
    • What steps have been taken to reduce the transport impact of the production and delivery of the stand (ie using local suppliers, travelling by rail rather than air).
    • What steps do they take to ensure any packaging and shipping materials are reused or recycled.

    Contractor Specifics

    • Please detail any single-use materials that are being used in the delivery/construction of your exhibitor stand alongside a justification of their use. If materials are planned for storage & re-use at additional events, these are not considered single-use.
    • Please consider use of re-useable materials in stand construction, especially in frames, where materials can be re-used for multiple clients and stand-builds. Modular frameworks of aluminium are considered especially sustainable for these purposes.
    • Please consider use of re-useable materials for infills (traditionally UPVC and fabric prints) that can be used at multiple events for the same brand.
    • Please consider the use of re-useable and/or recyclable flooring for your space, if required. Flooring systems can add significantly to the weight of transport associated with an exhibition stand. Many manufacturers of exhibition carpet can now supply recyclable material, although you should request details of specific centres with capacity to carry out recycling, and their geographical distance from either the show or your distribution point.
    • NOTE: significant proportions (>60%) of emissions related to many exhibition stand builds are associated with the crew used to build and breakdown.
    • Please consider the use of LOCAL stand-builders and crew. Using local general crew and build specialists reduces associated travel via private vehicles, accommodation and subsistence associated with the event. Please consider asking your crew to travel using public transport for the purposes of the exhibition.
    • The venue may be able to supply details of contractors who are able to support you in this endeavour.

For the purposes of THIS EXHIBITION these materials are prohibited to be used on your stand build and design:

    • The use of single-use MDF panels.
    • The use of other ‘raw materials’ to construct core structural elements, which will not be reused or recycled.
    • Construction of any stand components from single use materials.
    • Building any stand core elements from scratch.
    • The use of incandescent light bulbs.
    • The use of non-recyclable carpet or vinyl flooring.
